...Celebrating 70 years
of musical excellence.

About the Chorale

Located in the scenic corridor between the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountains in Southern California, the Pass Chorale has provided high-quality choral music to the communities of Yucaipa, Oak Glen, Cherry Valley, Beaumont, Calimesa, Banning and Cabazon. The chorale takes its name from the well-known San Gorgonio Pass, the region connecting these cities.

Established in the 1950s, the chorale has traditionally features classical pieces in two formal concerts each year, adding to them traditional and contemporary choral music, and occasionally performing original pieces by local composers. Some years, the concerts focus on a particular event rather than a classical theme, and some feature a sing-along segment where the audience is invited to join in singing familiar songs. The aim in offering this musical variety is to foster understanding and appreciation for each style, while offering something for everyone to enjoy.

The Pass Chorale has performed in various venues throughout the San Gorgonio Pass. It has been honored to perform at community events, such as a Christmas Tree lighting at San Gorgonio Hospital, the 100th birthday of the City of Banning, or a military tribute at a city July 4th celebration. Whatever the occasion, our goal is to bring choral music excellence and spread the joy of music throughout the San Gorgonio Pass area.

The chorale is based in the city of Beaumont, California.

July 4th, 2025

The Pass Chorale was honored to perform a musical Armed Forces Salute while military personnel posted the colors at the city of Banning California's July 4th celebration, held at Nicolet Middle School's athletic stadium. As each military theme was performed. those in the audience who had served are or were currently serving in that military branch were encouraged to rise and be recognized for their service. As is often the case, this tribute inspired and served to strengthen both community and national pride, and added to the anticipation of the spectacular fireworks display that followed. It was truly a night to remember!

December 14, 2025

The classical work for our December Concert was the Christmas section and Hallelujah Chorus of Handel's Messiah. This was an audience sing-along with chorale and orchestra, including harpsichord, which was held at Calvary Chapel Sweet Hills in Banning, California. The second half of the program featured a variety of traditional and contemporary Christmas favorites. The audience enjoyed a second sing-along of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," followed by much laughter as the chorale entertained them with "The Twelve Days After Christmas," a choral spoof that describes the chaotic and spiteful aftermath of receiving twelve days of outrageous gifts. The concert concluded with Michael W. Smith's "All is Well" followed by "Peace, Peace," a beautiful song which includes the audience singing "Silent Night" during the final chorus.

With our thanks! The evening also included a tribute to our former Artistic Director and his wife, Ernest and June Siva. After his retirement as director, both continued to sing with the chorale for an additional year. This concert was their final performance with the chorale. We are grateful for the nearly 30 years they gave to the chorale and wish them all the best.
